Easter Tale

Watch Him riding on a donkey,
the great and glorious King of Kings.
Lift up your voice, shout your praises
to Him, our Mighty Majesty.

See Him eating with His followers
as He prepares them for their tasks.
Witness this King serving others,
He became servant to mankind.

Look on as His friend betrays him,
handing Him over to His foes.
Notice that He does not struggle
against the trial that was to come.

Hide your face as we condemn Him
and take a murderer in His place.
Cry with shame as we insist that
He is put on a cross to die.

Gasp in surprise as He returns
three days after His painful death.
Thank Him, praise Him, tell the story
of His amazing sacrifice.

Battered

Battered, broken,
I lie here now,
my soul in tatters,
my dignity lost,
never to be reclaimed.

I have given up.
Never shall this dream come to be,
never shall I succeed here.
My time and effort have been wasted.

I stare at my ceiling
daring it to mock my pain.
Silently I ask for answers
from an unresponsive God.
My heartfelt pleas go unanswered
inciting my buried anger.

I blame myself, the world, God
to no avail
for it will not give me my heart's desire.
I continue hunting for success
for wallowing in my failure
brings me only shame.
